“The satisfying tick of a Buitrago timepiece is rivaled only by the beauty of its inner workings”
– Chronos Monthly, July 1997
It’s often said that Guirado Buitrago himself has the personality of a watch, being the small, intricate and difficult piece of machinery that he is.
Unsurprisingly, this has never stood in the way of his craft. On the contrary, his idiosyncratic and forthright nature has been the driving force behind a three-decade-long quest for the perfect timepiece.
As a young boy Guirado was always fascinated by the way in which things work. His deconstructive nature led to the demise of many household items, including the family’s grandfather clock!
Later, Guirado’s incessant curiousity would turn into full-blown passion as he undertook a seven-year internship with a Swiss watchmaker, who showed him patience, precision, and the importance of doing everything in exactly the right order.
Buitrago’s watches are his only children. When one stops ticking, his world slows to a halt and he can think of nothing beyond restoring it to working order. Feast your eyes on the exquisite beauty of his extended (and extraordinarily healthy) family here.
